@dagfooyo: "How does it know to only electrocute shoplifters?" "Only the shoplifters? That'd be nice."

@Anonymous: The dude's a professional syndicated cartoonist whose work is published in hundreds of newspapers around the world. His lack of professionalism is really exceptional.

@SQ_Minion: Why is that background necessary? He spends more time on shitty drawings than developing humor.

@Rev_Kev: If you look at it, you can tell he drew the foreground first, which he doesn't often do (which is why mailboxes and arms often become transparent in his comics). I guess he drew the guy and the counter, and then realized he framed it badly and there was a huge open space on the left side. Normally he would deal with that by hanging a landscape painting on the wall, but he must have been feeling creative.
What I can't figure out is what kind of a store Zees is. There's a gargantuan bookcase a foot and a half from the checkout counter, but it doesn't seem like the bag had books in it. Maybe it's the McPherson Props Store--"For All Your Book-Title-Punchline and Parachute Pants Needs!"21 1 -

@SQ_Minion: I'm pretty sure he has no idea how. His drawings are made on paper, according to that video that someone made for some reason. My guess is that he types the captions right onto the comic page, or uses a label maker that has only one font size.
Personally that orphaned word at the end bothers me just as much as the misaligned text does. I have a nagging feeling his 7 years as a design engineer were a huge lie.1 1 -

Alright McPhingbros, it's time for the revised 2014 edition of your favorite "mistakes that only McPheron would never learn from"-spotting game, McPHINGO!
Most of them are remakes of the older ones, some expanded to encompass more of McPheron's recurring trademark awfulness, and some have been merged into a more general tile in this way. ("THAT'S Not What That's Supposed To Look Like" covers the now-retired "Animal that doesn't look like animal" but may also work for any other egregious misunderstandings of what things look like that go beyond simple laziness or lack of artistic ability (in such cases, refer to the likes of "To The Deformobile!", "Only These Facial Expressions...", and "Engineering Degree Rescinded", which is just a renaming of the classic "Architecture Fail".)
Notable new additions: "Hidden Eyeball of Horror" and "Wall Line For No Reason", which people have observed recently.
I've paid more attention this time to rows, columns, and diagonals, separating subjects that usually don't appear in the same cartoon as best I can. Not that it really matters, since the idea is to cross off as many tiles as possible. Edits can still be made, and suggestions for the next edition will be taken throughout this year's run of Close To Home, brought to you by Mackd (and Sanyo(TM)).2 1 2 4 5 5 1 1 -

@Anonymous: Maybe there should be a pronoun square - "Doris" "Todd" The Zaadler Twins...

@bangowango: "Doris" and "Todd" would be typical 1-panel cartoon names, but deliberately funny/silly-sounding names like "Zaadler", "Snerg", "Borkman" and "Dilfman" (and even "Mark" cleaning a golf ball-*mark*) are a curious feature of McPheron cartoons. Hence "Hello my name is Ridiculous".
