@wardrich:
Your post made me think a lot, maybe I came across this website way too late, I couldn't experience what sounds as "the golden age of canvas". Is the situation THAT bad? I feel like I've totally missed the good times...

"Is the situation THAT bad?"
...We didn't even have seasonal stickers for Hallowe'en this year lol. The only special event that seems to be left is the Tacnyan on Friday the 13ths... and it's probably a script that sets a flag to true any time that date occurs.
Canv.as used to be pretty awesome. It was never super fantastic, but it was still pretty awesome. I have a post that has more stickers on it than I'm sure we have active users now. The whole site kind of got abandoned as soon as DrawQuest was rolled out. The blog (blog.canv.as - I bet half of you didn't even know that existed lol) seems to have pretty much dried up other than that strange post from a few months ago.
Not too much has happened *really* as far as negativity goes. Most of the users that left probably don't give too many shits about the site anyway. The prolific members stuck around, so we haven't really lost anything as far as quality. The site itself isn't really spammed out there, so there isn't too much to worry about as far as policing the site goes. We're kind of like an elite secret niche in the wide world of webs.

@Francuzo: If you're enjoying your time on canv.as now, don't worry about the golden age. The only word you need to know about the golden age is "nokonoko" and no one knows what that word means.

@Fluffers: Well thanks for that (I'll be thinking about nokonoko), here have a poptart cat!

The update to the remixer scared off half the members and the mod disappearance murdered the rest. I'd still be around if computer.

(srry in advance for wall of text)
i came here cuz my bf told me about it (he posted only anon and left when update happened)
i got addicted to the stickers pretty much within a week
also the drawing challenges
over time i got to kno the community better and i was really impressed at the variety of users and the general friendliness toward eachother.
its really awesome to be able to collaborate with ppl who arent all necessarily artists (as it is on other art sites like da).
imo what sets canv.as apart is that the users are more concerned with fun and being creative than seeing technical ability and building a fanbase.
this is y drawfriends is so fucking awesome and also the reason i do request threads exclusively on canv.as (id rather not get 30+ requests of pretty much only sonic ocs)
ive been on deviantart for 8 years (since i was about 16) and while there are a bunch of talented artists to follow i have never felt like i had a place within the community (ppl there get butthurt pretty easily...)
i have a tumblr too, but the userbase annoys me the same as da (its all very exclusive and clicky)...
at least i quit facebook tho cuz srsly fuck facebook (studies show it legit makes ppl upset when using it)
anyway canv.as 4 life u guys are awesome
((still no computer so i made a shitty trackpad drawing to show im still thinking of u guys))

@wardrich: actually quite a bit less than 3 years. I'd put it at just about 2.5 years, although I didn't check the actual dates, but i guess sometimes it seems like canvas has been around longer than that.

@Fluffers: That's what I was thinking; Golden age? What "Golden age?" I got my invitation and set up the Rev. To me, it was a joke. I didn't think it would last. But, look at us silly fools now.

@Rev_Kev: did you delete your FB, I was looking over my friend list and didn't see your name.

@Francuzo: Granted I haven't been around as long as other users, but to me this thread was the Golden Age of Canv.as https://canv.as/p/qr0ta Without a doubt, my favorite thread on the site. You should come help usher in the Golden Age 2.0 Electric Boogaloo

@wardrich: You missed quite a lot of people who post either infrequently or anonymously. I don't think there's much point in doing lists like that because communities are dynamic and all you really end up doing is excluding people.

@0xFF: You know, I really thought the way you did way back. I felt the need to break the rules or test the boundaries, didn't really understand Canvas and their perception of clean fun but I soon realized something. You can go anywhere and act like an asshole, call people names, post inappropriate pictures but there are few to none places where I can just have a clean viewing of the internet. I come here just to be creative and that's all I want to do. What's the point of fighting the fundamental of the site? It's tiring to say the least and you get no where doing it. If I want to be a cyber street urchin I go to 4chan (which I still love and always will) but here, I can just be nice and it's a nice change. I do get tired of the mild squabbles among users (which you'll never escape, it's the internet) but all in all I like the wholesomeness of the site and learned to respect it. Not to say you have to, do as you will. I'm just posting my experience with the site.

To earn stickers I:
1.) Troll as anon
2.) Make maymays
3.) Overuse stamps
I also make threads for my weekly podcast #NSFWradio and that is about entertaining you, the stickers are just a bonus.

@Acidsmooth: You selfishly enjoy yourself without any regard to anyone but the intended victims and your self? How dare you instigate such a fellowships of amusement. You've done and gone liking things others don't like. You better stop it, otherwise you're going to need this ...

i am here for the soulmates and the insanity. and I DO NOT NEED THE PERFECT COMMUNITY.
Or in Nietzsche's mind: perfection is death. everything that is perfect is dead because it shouldn't change. canvas is close to the maximum of imperfection.
I think this means NO RULES APPLY ...at least they don't for long because the imperfection changes everything.
I strongly support imperfection ...this is my 4th or 5th account....too many stickers and I am off.

Social networks are too full of happy people who don't give any s**ts. My family is made up of evil people, so thats why I would consider the users here to fill that place. I love you canvas and canvas userssss. =C14*C15
