  • @hzoo: Yeah right. The only one that could have beaten obama was paul, but johnson will take away the votes needed for romoney to win.

  • @2Sang: Johnson? Who is that? Paul Ryan is the smartest and most capable man in teh House of Representatives... when it comes to picking the person who can do that job, he is the man. Ever hear of the Paul Ryan budget? He knows the numbers, and he will blow dumbass Joe "Gaffe" Biden out of the water in the debates.

  • Anonymous

@Unifex: You know that the average tax-paying (only 51% of the country) US citizen pays only 13.8% federal taxes, right? So Romney still pays a higher percentage than average.

Personally, I love the Romney/Ryan ticket ... and anyone who doesn't know who Paul Ryan is needs to look at his exchange with Obama during the Healthcare debates. In less than 6 minutes he DESTROYS Mr Obama ... I mean, utterly ANNIHILATES him ... with cold, hard, facts and real options for a better way.

That's what I want ... cold, hard, facts and real options for a better way. I'm sick and tired of all this Blind Optimism (Hope) and Unicorn Policies (Change).

@Anonymous: 13.8% tax in a country that pretends to be first world is probably too low, 15% is patheticly low for a guy who makes as much money as he does, Ryans proposed levels of tax are just a joke though.

It's cool though as i'm happy to wait a couple of years for you guys to be totally wiped out under ryan to have this discussion again with you, assuming you have not been put against the wall as your trust fund will keep you clipping along for a fair while.

I agree Obamacare isnt awsome, it still forces you to go through insurance companies and doesn't do a government based option, but then I live in a country with a stronger dollar than yours that has public healthcare and isnt drowning in unemployment and corporate corruption of the political system so maybe i'm a bit biased as i've seen your country try to strip us of what makes a modern society at the behest of a variety of lobby groups who own you, the TPP being the latest attempt which Romney/Ryan will push and support just as strongly, so I wouldnt really care if you all killed each other tomorrow, which you seem to be ramping up to do.

  • @Anonymous: Obamacare forces Americans to buy health insurance whether they need or want it. If you are healthy, you get nothing for the money spent.

Mitt Romney has paid more in taxes than that stupid Harry Reid who made false allegations. The New York Times reports that Romney has paid taxes.

@Anonymous: You say "and yet", as if the reasons you posted aren't exactly the reasons we're going to vote for them. Ayn Rand is one hell of a lot more intelligent than Frank Marshall Davis (the avowed communist who helped raise Obama), Jeremiah Wright (the Black Liberation Theology racist who was Obama's 'close friend' and preacher -- until it became politically poisonous), and pretty much anyone else Obama trusts (including the man himself).

@Anonymous: I'd like to pick just one point out of your reply to me ...
    >13.8% tax in a country that pretends to be first world is probably too low, 15% is patheticly low for a guy who makes as much money as he does

1 - I'm curious as to why you feel that a first world country should be paying high levels of tax? Shouldn't a first world country have little need for gov't provided infrastructure and have a strong private market? Not only that, but the people should be relatively wealthy, thereby giving the government more for their 13.8% than other nations with a similar rate. A first world country really shouldn't need the federal gov't for much other than protection of our own freedoms (ie, preventing those who would seek power over us ... be they foreign or domestic entities, including corporations).

2 - The structure of your sentence seems to indicate that you are not aware that a % tax rate means more money is paid when more money is earned. If I make $80,000/year and pay 15% then I would pay $12,000/year in taxes. If Romney makes $800,000,000/year (he doesn't, but we're going to exaggerate a lot to make a point) and paid 15%, then he would pay $120,000,000/year in taxes. That's one hell of a lot of money and absolutely more than "fair". An equal percentage tax rate across all brackets from $1 earned to $1 trillion earned makes sense ... which is probably precisely why politicians haven't done it yet.

Anyway ... I'm curious as to why you feel a first world country should have higher tax rates than anyone else ... and why you think percentages should go up when income is high ... as the same percentage across the board still takes more from the rich in real numbers.

@Anonymous: Just to pick one thing out, seeing you dont understand why a country needs a government or what it's function is in society , or if you do you seem to think that it can do this without funds which makes this discussion more useless than normal...

"2." Is not how marginal tax rates work, that you dont understand this suggests you either dont earn, or are stupid.

A country that wants to maintain a strong democracy intead of falling apart requires from it's citizens an obligation, generally this is paid through taxes and equally it is generally understood by all but the most pathetically inane that the rich ought to pay more, generally much more beyond a certain point, as they have profited the most from living in said stable country and should put back into the country to maintain its stability in the longer term as well as their ability to earn by being citizens of it.

Your country is falling apart anyway though so I see little point getting into this discussion with someone who lives in a corporatocracy and is too foolish to understand how his own actions politically are making that position even worse. Enjoy your future, you earned it.

@hzoo: YEAH... tell those stupid libtards what's up. ROMNEY AND RYAN R GUNNA WIN!!!!!

  • The rich DO pay more taxes. Romney's 15% is probably more than you pay in ten years (or maybe even a lifetime).

The majority of total of tax revenue is also paid by the wealthy. That's why Obama's "pay their fair share" statement is bullshit.

  • Anonymous

@hzoo: HZOO, math isn't your strong suit, is it?

i think there's a good series on Khan Academy that will explain to you the magic of percentages

  • @Anonymous: Top 10 Percent of Earners Paid 71 Percent of Federal Income Taxes
    http://www.heritage.org/federalbudget/top10-percent-income-earners

Top earners are the target for new tax increases, but the federal income tax system is already highly progressive. The top 10 percent of income earners paid 71 percent of all federal income taxes in 2009 though they earned 43 percent of all income. The bottom 50 percent paid 2 percent of income taxes but earned 13 percent of total income. About half of tax filers paid no federal income tax at all.

  • @Anonymous: CBO: The wealthy pay 70 percent of taxes
    http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2012/jul/10/cbo-rich-pay-outsized-share-taxes/

Wealthy Americans earn about 50 percent of all income but pay nearly 70 percent of the federal tax burden, according to the latest analysis by the Congressional Budget Office

The top 1 percent, who President Obama has made a target during the presidential campaign, earns 13.4 percent of all pre-tax income, but paid 22.3 percent of taxes in 2009, CBO said.

In terms of actual earnings, the top 1 percent suffered the most in the recession, with their average earnings dropping from $1.9 million to $1.2 million. The lowest 20 percent saw their incomes drop from $23,900 to $23,500 during that time.

  • @Anonymous: FactCheck.org: Top 1%: What They Make and Pay

    http://www.factcheck.org/2008/05/top-1-what-they-make-and-pay/

Q: What percent of taxes does the top 1 percent pay and what percent of the income do they make?

A: The top 1 percent of all households got 18 percent of all personal income and paid nearly 28 percent of all federal taxes in 2005, according to the Congressional Budget Office. The top 1 percent now pay a significantly larger share of taxes than before President Bush’s tax cuts, and also have a larger share of income.

  • @Anonymous: The wealthy are paying MOST of the taxes. What is Obama talking about "fair share"? They are paying more than their fair share. What about you? Are you paying your "fair share" or you just want some free stuff?

Math isn't your strong suit, is it?

  • Anonymous

@hzoo: you still don't seem to understand basic math, which is why you rely on your random links for support, rather than logic.

the percent that they contribute to the overall pool is pointless. it's about the percent that they contribute OF THEIR INCOME.

just because they make a billion doesn't mean they should get a lower tax rate than i do when i pull in 35k.

    simple, eh?

  • @Anonymous: The tax system is already progressive (that means that people who make more pay more).

And again, the 15% of Romney's taxes (which do not include the 29% he gave to charity) is still many times more than what YOU paid in income tax. You criticized the math of that statement... but it is correct. Romney paid more in income tax in one year that you will pay in ten years, possibly in a lifetime.

    http://dailycaller.com/2012/09/21/tax-records-romney-donated-29-percent-of-income-to-charity-in-2011/

    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0912/81529.html

  • @Anonymous: So America is the great land of opportunity, where anyone can make it. But if you DO make it, then you're somehow a bad person who isn't "paying their fair share" when in fact they are paying more than everyone else?

  • @Anonymous: You want the people who pay most if not all of the taxes to pay MORE. Even if you do jack up their tax rates, it still doesn't come even close to solving the deficit spending problem (which Obama has made worse than ever).

And you don't comprehend that taking money out of the economy causes the economy to slow. Higher tax rates can actually bring in LESS REVENUE because there is less economic activity. Lower tax rates on MORE economic activity bring in more revenues.

  • Anonymous

@hzoo: as a self-employed person who made less than 35k, i paid an effective 34% tax rate.

do you still think romney's 15% is going to impress me because he makes more?

interacting with you is like talking to a child.

  • Get ready to pay more, dumbass

@Anonymous: Middle Class may pay for debt ceiling
    http://www.examiner.com/article/middle-class-may-pay-for-debt-ceiling

Since addressing the fiscal cliff, the rich are paying more in taxes.

The middle class isn't the only ones that will be effected. Women and single-parents households are having a hard enough time with money management.

When the Payroll Tax Holiday Ends in 2013, Taxes Will Go Through the Roof
    http://www.policymic.com/articles/4451/when-the-payroll-tax-holiday-ends-in-2013-taxes-will-go-through-the-roof

America is scheduled to get hit with what would be the largest tax increase in our history.

Not only will the $1,000 per year tax holiday for a $50,000 income household disappear, come 2013 all Americans will see the tax on their first $8,700 of income jump from a 10% rate to 15% rate.

That hike will cost the majority of filers an additional $435.

For those eligible for child care tax credits that deduction will drop from $1,000 to $500. The marriage penalty will roar back into effect. The AMT, alternative minimum tax, will finally kick in.

Roll those changes up and a family filing as married with two children making $50,000, will see their taxes increase by basically $2,700.

sorry, i can't take you seriously. you're so close to being actual parody it hurts.

  • @Anonymous: As much as hzoo is a tool, he is right about federal income tax. Somewhere around ~42-47% of people have zero federal tax liability - the exact percentage varies by year. What people that like to point out this fact often fail to take into account is the effective tax rate across all levels of government and what impact that has on disposable income. State and local taxes are typically regressive, with flat income taxes across all income levels and sales taxes.

Personally, I couldn't give a shit less if someone making $1.8 million was hit by the debt deleveraging and is now making "only" $1.2 million. I work on the assumption that anyone making 7 figures isn't earning their money anyway.

  • @Anonymous: I'd suspect that a war tax coming right out of the paycheck would provide a massive disincentive. I'll wait for that to happen right after they re-institute the draft.
