My doctor once told me that you should take the eye of a newt, the hair of a dog, go out in the full moon, put a steak on your head, jump up and down 3 times whilst throwing salt over your left shoulder. rinsing mouth with warm salt water usually helps a lot for pain of infection inside mouth.

make sure not to eat a lot of sugar, bacteria love sugar.

and from my experience tea tree oil/lotion helps sooth external pain too :)
