@Tion: As promised I waited two weeks. I thought the Olympics was actually rather good. Obviously I am biased since we did get our best results ever so we finished third, but there are still objective reasons. Many of the venues are amazing and historic places (archery at Lord's, football at Wembely, rowing at Eton). Plenty of records were broken, pretty much daily actually, so clearly the athletes themselves had a great games. Not to mention the celebration of British culture that is recognised worldwide in the ceremonies (Monty Python, Mr Bean, James Bond, The bloody Queen and all that music, the list goes on). Most of us have been saying it would be shit for the last two or three years and yet the notoriously hard to please British public has been kept chipper for the last two weeks - an incredible feat. Of course the best thing is that we battered the French AND the Germans.
TL;DR I enjoyed it and despite only being alive for 5 Olympiads I can safely say it was probably top half and not the worst. -

@moobraz: When there are frequent posts making light of subjects such as rape, sexism, racism, mass murder on a supposedly safe for work site, when the majority of users apparently support this behavior & mock those who don't want to see it, you end up losing some people, and see others show up only occasionally to salvage the scraps of decency that still remains here. Canvas has become steadily less and less a home for creative people, and closer to a 4chan with an image editor.
Unless there is more done to stem the flow of hate that has been seeping in, Canvas will continue to lose users who prefer happiness over hostility.2 -
