This is a very good question and actually really matters a lot.

@refractor: "Everything" is good, we're going with Explore right now because we think of it as a way to explore what else is going on in Canvas. Whatever makes people click.

So you'll get notifications in your activity anytime someone posts in a thread you started, or reacts to your post. Any time there's activity in a tag you follow, there will be a number to the right of it (you can see that in the screenshot next to #funny). The one thing we'll lose with Pinned is knowing when someone posts in a thread that you also posted to (assuming it doesn't show up in the Feed). If that turns out to be a problem for folks we'll look into adding a "track" button in the thread so that you'll get activity notifications anytime anyone posts.

A firehose is just a stream of real-time data. So a sticker firehose would be a stream of data about stickering (like what's getting stickered right now).

@nsbarr: Real time sticker information? Didn't we have that with sticker rain?

Anonymous posts should have their own "user" page.

@calhaus: Thanks for the feedback. I don't think we'll see tag abuse, but if we do there are plenty of ways to handle it. We think YouTube's tag and group system is a little convoluted. For examples of good tagging systems, check out Quora and Tumblr.

One of the ways we're going to help new users (actually we've been doing this for a while) is by promoting active threads, starting challenges, etc. with a Canvas account that new users will follow by default. We'll take good care of new folks with the Canvas account, and help them discover what's going on everywhere.

Right, tags belong to the OP and apply to the rest of the thread. For now there's no tagging of individual posts

@Anonymous: Kind of, but imagine the opposite of sticker rain. Instead of stickers raining down all over the site, imagine a widget that shows remixes as they get stickered.

Instead of answering the question, "Is anything on this page getting stickered right now?" it answers a much cooler question, "What's getting stickered right now on Canvas?"

(This is something we're thinking about, not something that we have scheduled right now.)

I think we'll see a tag abuse, it's like a user can post in funny but also in all so it gets himself more exposed for good or bad he is seen by everyone.

If tags (again the if) limit them for a 3 or 5 limit per post.

The things you said about trying to bring new users are just good in theory in my opinion. For non registered users, the way they see threads is beautiful but sucks too much! They can't see the evolution of the thread correctly and they loose interest, i show links to friends and trying to find posts in a non registered thread is just bad and impossible if it's text or not a top post.
Monster mash in non registered page is always the same monster and don't shows the true potential. (At least the one it's the beautiful splig moobraz monster <3)
Show only active threads, takes away really good and random threads with a little amount of posts from ever being seen from casual users just passing by... Like gifs or the OC pokemons joaoffrocha made, or that really good remix made in a shitty thread...

@Anonymous: zoom is needed. Impossible to do intricate cloning / swapping without it. I often find myself using the browser zoom but it suck-diddley-ucks.

This seems like a pretty drastic change to the overall layout of Canv.as... I wonder how it will effect the flow of the site. For example, following various users is a logical step for the social aspects of the site, and yet the majority of users post anonymously.

I suppose we'll just have to wait and see.

@calhaus: On the other hand, I have never used zoom in a remix.

@Photocopier: i'm not a good drawer :/, so i need to do the things right by zooming to get the things as i was imagining them in the "right pixels".

I do agree with you that circle-jerky cliquey behavior is to be avoided, but... how, exactly?

@Anonymous: you're asking for bells and whistles while the devs are focusing on the core aspects of the site. I get that you want these features, I want them too, but you can be a little more patient. Remember, we're still in beta.

If someone is following me and I post anonymously, will my anon post show up in their feed?

Encouraging canvasaurs to form groups and sticker posts based on reciprocity will encourage the formation of groups that drive each other's content to the top of threads and boards based on being part of a clique rather than quality (not that I'm claiming that my posts are particularly great, probably the opposite).

I appreciate that canv.as is trying to create something more grown up and sophisticated than 4chan, but it shouldn't try to be the new Facebook or tumblr either. Trying to go down that path will lead to extermination.

Focus on making the remix tool the best the internet has to offer.

I have absolutely no problem with people claiming particularly successful or good posts, or with those who choose to use a username.

This may be purely personal preference but for me part of the attraction is that I can be anonymous. If I wanted to social network there are hundreds of other sites that can it better.

Finally, the grid layout is gone and the list layout is implemented.

@Anonymous: A valid point that we've taken into consideration - we do want to help bring interesting content into your feed from people you're not already following. That's why we're starting with "sticky" threads and showing posts stickered by people you follow. We also have Explore where you can find more new content and users.
