@Anonymous: as lay as it gets, i think:

@Anonymous: The Higgs Boson produces a field. When particles enter that field they are given mass.

Congratulations!! Im very excited, 40 years of ressearch and here we have it. It is not 100% certain if it is the Higgs particle, but they're still checking data and figuring it out. I heard it could be used to describe the gravitational force.
Anyways the chances on finding it must have been really small. Good job LHC :D -

@Anonymous: But still 0,1% unsure :O
Jk
They wouldn't pop the champagne if the numbers were'nt significant enough. -

100,09% sure, would be greater though -

@Anonymous: I dunno the answers :p
It is a bit strange that we observe gravity and experience mass, but the particle that causes it is so damn hard to find. Could be cool i guess to not have any mass and gravity, maybe that's how the afterlife is. Im not talking about religion or god. But just to fly around in space as a beam of light with conciousness, would be crazy. -

@Anonymous: The field is absolute to the Higgs, the higgs field is produced by the fact of the universe existing.

@Anonymous: Must be a big field cause i haven't seen pigs flying yet or ghostly people visiting me.

@Anonymous: I believe that they've found the Higgs boson, but http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2011/09/110923-neutrinos-speed-of-light-particles-cern-physics-einstein-science/ this was not correct i heard afterwards.
-
Anonymous
@Anonymous: In that case they said that they have detected a neutrino traveling faster then light but they think it is an error.
-
Anonymous
@Anonymous: Yep and that the instruments have failed to be understood some times, which makes you think if they've made a mistake again. I personally think that they've got it right and every physicist ive heard so far agrees on that. Sorry if i have made you doubtful. :P

@Anonymous: Well, "cat" requires less keyboard distance than "dog", but do you understand why it might be important to differentiate the two?
