I love the power glove. It's so BAD. But it's still pretty nerdy...

For the post so classy it needs to be number one'd as well. "But wait," you say, "how is it double sided if it's a sticker?" Shhhhhh... it's best not to question the number oneocle.

Drawfriends I might genuinely appreciate your help with jerb ideas!

    Jerb thread.

I work in ropes access but my joints are fucked D: so I am trying to get myself thinking about a new job with no real physical effort involved. I have to be careful even lifting my laptop up because my joints are that bad. poor me lol

I'm struggling for job ideas to look and apply for and I'm sure there will be other people browsing who might benefit from some occupation ideas! Ideally I want to be working alone (or at least minimal people contact unlike current job) and right now I feel like I'm willing to work for minimum wage just to get out of this physical job!

I've included a background just incase you want to draw me doing my new job?

  • @Anonymous: I guess job of a night guard can be awesome for introverts, unless it connects with you know, doing anything at all instead of staying awake in a house/school etc. I'm not sure but I imagine this job great if you want to practice small hobbies.

Working in an internet café is great too. The wage is extremely small (or at least was in my case) but I enjoyed working there very much. The worst thing about it was the fact I had to stay there mostly on sunny days.

    Too lazy ; didn't draw

Hotel Desk Clerk, not the greatest job, but often pays above minimum wage. The Night Audit pays more than a regular desk clerk, most places its $10+ an hour. It's a far more peaceful shift and you have less work to do. Which leaves you plenty of time for stuff like reading, homework, canv.as, etc.

Many many moons ago when I worked Night Audit, I use to mess around in yahoo chatrooms and forums like 4chan, did my college homework, rambled with Truckers. Got paid 12 bucks an hour, all the snacks I wanted from the kitchen, free coffee all night. But the greatest perk was I got to do a patrol around the property on a golf cart in the middle of the night.

@Coutoon: Night guard sounds perfect for me... I'm usually almost nocturnal anyway! But I'd imagine they are much sought after jobs what with having to do nothing. It's a good starting point; I'm gonna look for some vacancies :D!

Web development etc does sound pretty awesome (maybe not for me though coz I'm not interested enough or smart enough!)

Do you have to deal with people in a library/museum? What do you actually do?

@Anonymous: That sounds INSANELY awesome! What do you do as a Hotel Desk Clerk? Do you have to deal with humans irl or by e-mail if, for example you're on the day shift?

@Cariafx: That does sound awesome for some I guess!

@Anonymous: Basically customer service skills and data entry. Morning shift checks people out, Day/Night shifts check guests in. Reservations come via phone, fax, or e-mail. Night Audit need a little math skills for checks and balances, but it's just addition and subtraction. They often give you little tasks like dust the lobby, fold the pool towels, etc. Busy work. Most everything is done on the computer in applications that resemble the forms you fill out for a new e-mail aka fill in the blank.

Not all hotels have free breakfast for guests.
Not all hotels have you do patrols, some have security cameras.
If it's a franchised hotel like Best Western, you're going to have more rules.
If it's a fancier hotel you're going to be required a lot more professionalism.

@Cariafx: I wish they would employ people to draw pictures all day, I would do that job for just enough money to live in a tiny room and eat bread and water. I'd still be a very happy person.

  • @Anonymous: I would do that too...except for the bread and water part. That's not very healthy at all.

  • @mikshaw: Bread + Water = Beer
    Of course it's healthy! :D

  • @Anonymous: I guess that lollajames would share some of her food with you.

  • I do freelance graphic design, and sell art prints online.

So basically, I sleep a lot.

OP here thanks for all the suggestions here's an update on my life lol:

Last week when I posted I was a bit scared because of how much my joints were hurting but right now they're feeling a lot better. I know once I go back to work they'll get worse but I'm not as panicked and it will take physical pain for me to be motivated to switch jobs.

I've had a look at night watchman jobs and they're all saying they require good people skills etc so that puts me off a lot...!

After the Hotel Desk Clerk suggestion I thought of data entry jobs, as long as they don't require teamwork or people skills it could be a winner.

This idea feels like it's almost beyond a shot in the dark but I wish you could be paid to wander around the countryside collecting organic specimens and recording what you find!
