@Anonymous: I always appreciated Gwar b/c I thought they were a supposed to be some kind of parody on the entire metal scene.

@Anonymous: Those are the links you provide to help me take metal more seriously? All might be examples of non-growl lyrics but still are examples of why I don't like metal. The music and it's scene has a lot in common with musical-theater and classical music. Add influences of fantasy, general anger/angst and it might make more sense why metal has always sounded to me like drama nerds from high school who take themselves way too damn seriously. When I listen to rock I tend to gravitate more towards stuff that is more influenced by blues, jazz and folk.

@TrueBlue: Yes, classical music and opera has had a huge impact on heavy metal, there is even a whole sub-genre called symphonic metal, surely that's a massive positive though?

@TrueBlue: "drama nerds who take themselves way too damn seriously" Most metal bands don't take themselves seriously at all, they play because they enjoy it, want to entertain people, and generally just have a massive party. In addition when you have bands dressed in full latex costumes having battles with a zombie Hitler, or you have a vocalist dancing round the stage like a crab you can hardly say they are taking themselves seriously.

@TrueBlue: no they are just a satirical pisstake band who are an extreme of the normal attitude i.e. lets go and have a massive party

@Anonymous: Dufuq? I can't see the first video but I don't have a clue how the other two are even considered metal by any means.

@TrueBlue: >heavy metal
>scream-growling lyrics
lol, ever heard about this little band called Iron Maiden ? Also, try listening to Edguy, Helloween, Freedom Call... You'd be surprised of the voice quality. And they don't need autotune or vocoders. -

@Acidsmooth: You've never heard of Symphonic Metal? So many bands fall under that category: Nightwish, Within Temptation, Avantasia, Kamelot, Sonata Arctica etc. etc. Rhapsody of Fire and Christopher Lee (who has worked with Rhapsody of Fire and Manowar!) play Symphonic Metal

Anti-Monarchy UK Republicans. Firstly because their main argument seems to be based on money yet they ignore the fact that our taxes are lower (because of the revenue from Royal property which is given by the monarch to the treasury), and the Royal family brings in far more money than is paid to them in their annual salary.
Secondly, who would they have in the Monarch's place as head of state, we certainly don't want another politician as unlike the Royal Family who care more for their duties than their positions, a President (or equivalent) would be more concerned with their own position and getting re-elected than performing their duties. Finally we wouldn't have many of the ceremonial events carried out by our amazing military (which brings in many tourists) such as Trooping the Colour, the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, or even the everyday event of the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace. Anyway who would want to live in U.R.E.S.W.NI (The United Republics of England Scotland Wales and Northern Ireland) when we can continue in the United Kingdom! -

@Anonymous: You forgot that the Royal Family currently has a (for want of a better term) 90% approval rating, basically 90% of people in the UK want the Royal Family in, and with between 7-9% not sure this means that 1-3% are republicans so they aren't as big as they believe they are.

@Rapsol: I'm not a fanboy or something, buy it when my discman died after 6 years full of happiness. We sell 8 gb and tell you that is 8 gb with plenty of room for your songs but then you realize that with the ios and updates you have less than 6 gigs. I admit it's a good machine just to hear music but I would like to say that in their commercial or a disclaimer on the box, something for the average customer is aware of this and if you have the option to acquire the right thing

@Anonymous: I don't see how that qualifies as metal. Sounds like symphonic rock to me. This is symphonic metal http://youtu.be/1k04dxI_-8k

@Acidsmooth: That would be symphonic BLACK metal, metal doesn't have to have extreme vocals
-
@Anonymous: Yes but it does have to be extreme in some way, the examples you posted are not extreme in any way.

@Acidsmooth: The Rhapsody of Fire video is one of the slower songs try this one from the same album http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g47urRlP2mk also metal doesn't have to be extreme in any way, if it did then songs like Blood Brothers by Manowar or Memories by Within Temptation can't be considered metal when clearly they are metal

@Acidsmooth: I'll have to disagree to that. Rhapsody is, and will ever remain, a symphonic/power metal band. Probably the best there will ever be for that matter. These guys were serious business back in the days of Dawn Of Victory, Rain Of A Thousand Flames and Power Of The Dragonflame.. actually, until Luca Turilli left and before this "Rhapsody of Fire" nonsense.
Just listen to this and you will get your fair share of symphonic stuff, AND good metal stuff.

Are we posting music now?
This is my favorite band. I just broke up with my girlfriend so yeah. -
@Anonymous: Ok, I'll give you that this is metal. It has crunch guitars and metal drums and soaring vocals. Pretty good track too.
