@Anonymous: I know what IRC is and how it works. It's not like it's some new fangled tech that I've never used before. It's just I've used some where they'd just assigned you a number as you entered or the like. No need to have a "name."

@Anonymous: See the thing I'd want to avoid is if I used it regularly even with just a random number or something if I was the only one using said name I'd become known as that name and a hurr durr internet reputation would form around it. Anne Frankly I want no part of that. I'd prefer we just talk and have fun without knowing who's who. Much better that way.

@Anonymous: if you use mibbit (despite other clients being superior), it assigns you a new number/letter combination each time.
But people will be able to tell by your personality who you are, I'm pretty sure about that.

@Anonymous: Seeing how all IRC clients ideally should work and react the same, which most clients, including mibbit, do, a "superior" client can basically only be determined by other factors such as stability or customizability.

I have yet to see someone complaining about massive crashes on mibbit's side, that is true, but I have many times see people accidentally close the tab while casually browsing, which may not be a flaw in its coding, but in the concept of having an in-browser client itself.
Then there's also the thing that you can't run mibbit without having your browser open, which is a minor problem for most pc users, but users on low-end pcs might not want to have their browser up and running while playing a game or something, while a light-weight IRC client could definitely handle that (I'm thinking irssi, but I personally don't use it).

As a last little argument, I have that mibbit isn't really very customizable from what I have experienced, whether you do or do not have an account, while many other clients, like XChat-WDK or mIRC offer more customization in terms of graphical user interface (XChat probably being the most customizable in this aspect), and have much more in-depth menus and functions, such as logging stuff on your pc, adding keyboard shortcuts and buttons, changing how the client displays text events (kicking, joining etc) and much more.

I hope I could make a point here.

@leod: That's what I usually use. I don't chat to people unless my browser is open anyway. Meh, I guess I could join. It's a moot point right now though. I'm not at my computer.

@remeranAuthor: What it we could just make an effort to forget all the past and try to get along with each other? This, being the Internet, will bring together lots of different personalities with different opinions, culture, and values, but if we could just accept each others just how we are, without judging us, this would make not only our stay on irc (and canvas) more enjoyable, but our real life as well.

I love each and every canvas user (and every human being for that matter) and all I really want is to see us all having a good time (remixing) together.

IRC is a awesome idea and the 4/5 times i was there the place and people seemed nice.

I've got kicked for saying 9gag in a middle of a sentence but i found that funny.
But the things that happened with this 2 persons can't happen, it does not seem like they have no reasons not to be mad.

@calhaus: Jiakko is just joking around, Remeran author is really not a nice person. If you come on we can explain it to you better. Look at all the other irc advertisment threads, he does the same thing every time.

@calhaus: You'd be surprised how few people we have/had issues with. The 9gag kicker is just for laughs; the kickers for CoC violating words are there for a valid reason, but even those have caused some people to leave (complaining like little kids about it while saying "AREN'T WE ALL ADULTS HERE" with no sense of irony).

rA made it his personal mission to find a reason to dislike the channel and/or its users, and we love Jiakko but are trying to help him thicken his skin a little. You can't please all users, but we most certainly do our best to make everyone feel welcome and a part of the channel.

I've been an operator for most of the time I've been there, but I wasn't around when remeran author was removed, so I never saw any internet drama go down. I try to let people be.

I have clients who use Win7 on OSX within VMWare Fusion so I needed to learn to interact with it, and a lightweight laptop is an indispensible tool for onsite visits no matter what software is being used. :3 That good enough for you?
