@Anonymous: No one should be required to hate themselves based on where they're from. If there's one thing the world needs it's a little less arbitrary hatred of individuals.

@Anonymous: Self-deprecation =/= self hate.
Being able to laugh at yourself is a wonderful thing. The more people that understand that the less ridiculous arguments the world would get into.3 -
@skript_kiddie: In france you need to understand that everyone will take offence at everything you say, this is because you are american and it has nothing to do with you as a person.
In Italy you will need to remember not to go to small towns or into the country side as the maffia and gangs has become more dangerous since the Euro troubles. (they set of a bomb put side a school a week ago)
In spain don't buy many souvenirs as they may have drugs in them.
In poland please be aware that the government is become more oppressive and there are a few protests going on.
In Amsterdam don't asume that everyone smokes pot.
And in general use common sense and stay safe on your travels, good luck.8 1 1 2 1 1 -

@skript_kiddie: Nutella is pretty easy to find in Europe, as it is made by an Italian company. From my friends who have traveled in France and Germany I hear peanut butter can be hard to find.

@Spazturtle: Believe it or not, according to the Pew Global Attitudes Project, the French like Americans more than any other European country, with 78% holding a favorable perception of Americans.
Among the countries polled (there weren't many) only Kenyans, Japanese, and (obviously) Americans were more likely to have a favorable perception of Americans.

@jvasquez311: Yes, pretty much all money that comes from countries that use the metric system has different colors for different denominations. I wonder if there's a correlation...

It's quite astonishing, the difference that pretending to be Canadian will make in terms of how nicely foreigners treat a person who has an American accent. Even your luggage will get less punishment if it has a maple leaf tag dangling off it instead of the Stars and Stripes.
