@Tati5001: no and i'm not gonna bother watching it either. it looks like a film for little kids.

@Tati5001: One of my close friends was inspired to join the military after watching Captain America. He's the irl version of Steve Roberts but way more pathetic. Now he's finished basic training and plans to marry his girlfriend and by a house, I'm really proud of him.

@Jingozaa: I think maybe I was expecting much more of it. If you think about the other movies, they were all better than this one in my opinion.

@Tati5001: Scarlett Johansson is in it? awesome movie!

@Tati5001: Bad? No.
Overrated as fuck? Yep.
Just a fun summer movie with nice dialogues and ok action. Whedonfans and geek-wannabes (OMG I loved Avengers, it was so nerdy lol) praise it as a masterpiece but srsly, it ain't no Citizen Kane.43 1 -

@Tati5001: I don't know anyone who even read Thor, that isn't close to 50 now. Don't get me started on how out of date Cpt America is...
I got 0.0 interest in these shitty cash cows they call movies. Maybe marvel should start worrying about making some actually decent Comics so they have something to make movies about in 10 years.31 -

@Anonymous: I'm 21 and I've been an avid reader and fan of Thor since I was a wee lad. Thor has always been and always will be my favorite of the Marvel heroes.

@Tati5001: I'd love to say yes but it seems there's a few in this thread that agree with you.
I would however posit that you're all in the minority ;-)
I'm not even a big superhero / marvel / etc fan (out of all their films the only one I've seen thus far is Iron Man and Avengers... plus Xmen 1 and Spidey 1, but they're DC rite?), and I thought it was fuck-awesome.
Sure, it's no citizen kane, but if you're after a summer blockbuster this one hits the spot hard, and repeatedly, until the credits actually come as mild relief. Beats the living shit out of Transformers, for a start. It's not even particularly stupid, at least compared to the usual standard.
It's cool though, you're entitled to your opinion and to like different things. Just don't waste your time ripping on the stuff others like too much, as it's not a particularly productive state of mind.2 -

@tahrey: Just to be clear, I wasn't ripping on anything. I was just curious to know if others shared my opinion. When the movie launched I saw everybody saying it was amazing. I know it is a summer movie, but judging by the individual movies, I was expecting a lot more from this one. And like I said before, I am a huge fan of Whedon's series, so again, I was expecting something really amazing.
That is of course, just my opinion. It felt like the movie was missing something.2 -
@Tati5001: Gwyneth Paltrow? It did seem a bit odd how she was put on a(n air-) bus at the start of the film. Presumably to restrict the number of strong female characters/role models, because heaven forfend it have a chance at passing the bechdel test.
Q: did you watch it in 3D or 2D?2 -
@tahrey: I watched in 2D, I get dizzy with 3D :). I was never a big fan of the Avengers, so I cannot say if it was a good version of it or not, from the comic's perspective. I do prefer Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper than Scarlet Johansson as Black Widow. I don't know if it is the director's fault or the script, but her character was awful IMHO.

@Anonymous: Did you really just snub Avengers because it isn't as good as Citizen Kane??? You don't even get a cookie sticker for that. That's a thumbs down comment, all day.

Justice League sucks IMHO, not sure why anyone have them in their lists.
On topic: I saw the premiere, I thoroughly enjoyed the ride throughout the movie, but it was empty entertainment, and I cringed at a lot of the one-liners, despite it having a very Buffy vibe (of which I'm an avid fan).
I give it an entertaining 7/10, but yeah, it's just as overrated as The Dark Knight was/is.3 -
Anonymous
@Anonymous: It's a FX movie.
I still watch Lord of the Rings when it's on but in 10 years i would probably watch a rerun of How i Met your Mother over this.21 -
@Anonymous: Very good point about the bad one-liners. I think they turned Stark into a dumbass on this one. And that line from Captain America telling Hulk to smash...That one hurt.

@hepcat1of1: No, I said Avengers are overrated and it's not a as good as everyone say. It has 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, do you really think it's fair rating?
-
@Anonymous: Actually it is exactly as good as everyone says. Since movie reviews are subjective, each and every piece of praise is well deserved. On the other hand, it would seem that most, if not all negative reviews on the movie are baseless and irrational. Additionally, I have read reviews were people give the movie bad scores just on the basis of it being a summer popcorn flick, which is a lot like being mad at pools for only being fun when it's hot out. As for your question, no, I don't think 93% on RT is a fair rating. I think 95% or even better would be more accurate.
-
@Tati5001: Ah, I was just wondering if it had suffered 3D-rot or something. After enjoying Avatar and Star Trek (which between them sort of kicked off the current craze) in 3D IMAX loveliness, me + IRL pals quickly fell out of love with the idea as world + dog rushed to put out films with extra dimensions for no good reason. We all saw Avengers in 2D. I cannot see any way that watching it in extra-flickery-o-vision with some one-size-fits-all plastic specs on your face would have materially improved it. Unless there's like a bit where Thor throws his hammer out into the theatre or something. That'd be cool. But only a few second's worth of.
Never even HEARD of Black Widow before this film. I thought she was interesting, and occasionally funny, but rather flat characterisation-wise. Very much the token chick, just like Samuel L Motherfuckin' Jackson was the token black guy AND cripple. Cool tokens, but tokens nontheless.
(Like I said, or meant to - a straight-down-the-line action movie. It even gave the baddie a cod-english accent...)
It would have been mu.... er, *further* improved by Pepper having to get into Stark's spare suit at some point, or at least otherwise getting involved, rather than spending her 1% of the total screen time evenly divided between a/ lovey-dovey bickering with him, b/ crying in a plane, c/ rearranging his plans for rebuilding the tower and otherwise being completely absent. Maybe they're saving her for a catfight showdown with BW in the inevitable sequel.2 -

@Anonymous: It's what you'd call an event movie, then. Something which works a lot better in the cinema, not so well at home. I'd put Avatar very firmly into that category. In fact I refuse to watch it until I have a 70+ inch full (preferably quad) HD screen in my lounge, with passive 3D display.
Seen in the proper setting, it's awesome. Outside... no fun.
LotR rests just as much on its story and the atmosphere as it does the pure visuals (for all the awards they won), and I've found it to be perfectly rewatchable both on VHS and pre-DVD-spec VCD, which these days wouldn't even count as youtube's lowest resolution. -
@Anonymous: Listen, there's no new movie scripts and if movie goers don't understand that, then they are wasting their time. Given, Avatar was a tired story. I liked it better when it was called The Last Samurai. Some may have liked it better when it was called Dances With Wolves, but if you can't accept that Avatar was an absolutely BEAUTIFUL movie with awe inspiring visuals, then you are probably going to the movies for all the wrong reasons. Maybe it's time for you to just read a book.

@hepcat1of1: hey, you have to respect them for sticking to their principles at least.
go classical epic, or go home. -
@hepcat1of1: dunno, which older movie would you say Avengers is then? it feels formulaic, after all, but i can't put my finger on it.
...is there maybe a touch of Serenity in there, in fact, thinking about it?! it'd make sense after all. -

If you go to see a movie and analyze every minute of the film then why even go?
I take a shit every day or so,i don't rate them or talk about "best shit ever" or discuss what toilet paper wipes my ass the best.
watch the movie,have fun.
i could have cared less about the Hunger Games but i saw it,it was fun.
it's something i watch for enjoyment, I'm not at the movie theater hoping this is the movie i watch the redefines my life.1 -

@Anonymous: lol! expert movie critic doesn't know what comic company out of the big two owns the rights to Spidey/Xmen over the past 50 years plus.
