What do you do with a finger box? I never heard of this before.

@Anonymous: Glass covers are great, I recently ordered a custom box with one. I've only ever heard good things.

I had the chance to get a modern chinese one, those with electric fitting. sooo proud of it.

@Tati5001: You need to submit that one to Antique Road Show. I'll bet it's worth something just for the craftsmanship. Finger boxes are not simply boxes with holes in them... they're quite difficult to make.

@Acidsmooth: This one's a bit rough around the edges. I recommend using different materials for construction. You get better aerodynamics and acoustics from something like foam posterboard.

Don't worry, my first fingerbox looked WAAAAY fucked up, this one looks pristine in comparison.

@Anonymous: Oh! That is a great idea. I never thought of it!!! I will ask my grandpa for his contacts, I remember him saying he used to go to those Road Shows all the time. He has 3 other boxes he got from there, I will scan the pix later.

That reminds me, I've been thinking of getting a wooden one to add to my collection, but I'm torn between pine and oak. Can anyone give me a breakdown of the pros and cons of each?
Don't say mahogany or get both, I'm on a student budget here.

@Anonymous: Pine has a few pros:

- It's cheaper
- It's easier to find

And for fingerbox use it has a few cons:

- It's lighter, and because of this it might move around while you're using your fingerbox, and this could lead to injury.
- It doesn't look as nice as oak.

Personally I love my oak fingerbox, so I'm a bit biased.
