I came from deviantArt (yes go ahead laugh), and even I find this silly. I'm not given the option to insert why I favorited a picture on dA. It encourages those comments to be actually made on the picture itself, not is some secret message. It's a lot more meaningful for the artist/creator of something when he can see a thread full of comments, rather than some private messages you get randomly.

I would like to add something else.
People are saying and implying that you could just post a comment about what you've stickered, BUT there have been people that take credit for giving a sticker they didn't even give (not that it matters to me). This allows the person who gave this sticker to do so privately (if they don't want to brag about it) and it also gives "evidence" against anyone else claiming to have given the sticker (if the person who received the sticker cares to prove against it).2 -

@Anonymous: Yes it does in every sense of the word. Sure, your comments are out in the open, but guess what, NOBODY CAN ATTRIBUTE THEM TO ANYBODY. It's private by proxy.

@PrivateTaco: "People are saying and implying that you could just post a comment about what you've stickered, BUT there have been people that take credit for giving a sticker they didn't even give"
Good thing that rarely happens, and only happens with trolls. -

@Anonymous: >was
It's not like the option to be anonymous has been taken away, only the option to be private has been added. If you don't like it don't use it. That simple.31 -
@Anonymous: It doesn't matter how often it happens or who does it. Now you have an option to shut them up if it really matters that much to you.
If you don't like added options then just leave. Delete your account. Canvas is in beta so a lot of things will continue to be added and changed. If you don't like the site growing, then maybe you just shouldn't be here.21 -
LOL, i don't get why people are so buttmad about this feature. I don't really like it either, but is just that, a feature on a website. If i don't like it, i won't use it.
Also this is the internet boys and girls, you're taking this silly thing way too seriously.
Also, Downvote = Censorship? LOL.1 1 -

@len80: When default anonymous was taken away, that rustled my jimmies. Also, canv.as isn't even a place for a PM system. I didn't even know the guy who gave me the last epic sticker I got a bit ago. I barely know any of the namefiends on canv.as, and the same goes for most everybody considering that a good majority of the site posts as anonymous.

@Anonymous: not necessarily. There are Canv.as celebrities, you know who you are... ;o)

How could you say that? -

@BelieveMeImLying: So... you want to make #politics more of a shithole? And wouldn't that lead to more shitstorms over "(insert username here) just called me an idiot with that sticker!" or "(insert username here) is secretly a conservative!"?

@BelieveMeImLying: From the canv.as CoC:
"Don't single out other users for ridicule and don't harass, intimidate, threaten, bully, troll or otherwise be a jerk on Canvas."
I think a butthurt sticker would fall in that category. -
@Anonymous: A Comment/image gets downvoted by a bunch of people = democracy.
Website, goverment, "man with power" forcing you to shut up and distorting your opinions = censorship.
But i kinda get the butthurt about it, there are people who downvote just because "that post is downvoted imma downvote it too without even reading it because i can't think for mysulf".1 -

@WaltGillette: "A Comment/image gets downvoted by a bunch of people"
The problem is it's not even a bunch of people, maybe only 2 people total. That isn't democracy when the site is larger than 2 people. It would be a textbook autocracy in that situation. -
@Anonymous: i wouldn't know how much of a shit hole #politics is, I stopped following it long time ago
-
@Anonymous: I think the Butthurt sticker would fall perfectly onto your post :)

Yikes. This thread got really derailed. For any sad soul who made it this far, I just want to re-iterate some of the key points:
1) You don't have to add messages to your epic stickers.
2) Private messages via stickers can't be anonymous (to protect against trolling).
3) Private messages are still subject to the Code of Conduct.
If you have very strong feelings about this feature already, email us at support@canv.as so we can understand where you're coming from.
But honestly, I'd highly recommend trying the feature out for a couple of weeks first. I could be totally wrong, but I think you'll either love it or simply not notice it.

@Anonymous: Well, i'm talking more about the act of "donwvoting" than the way it's implemented in the website. In that case i agree, Canv.as team should totally check on that. but at least the post gets hidden, it would be a more fierce censorship if the post just gets deleted.

@ae: And while we're at it, I don't believe there were any comments about default anon. Is it a bug, too? I know we really should have just write a proper letter, but still...

@Anonymous: To me these guys are Jiakko, photocopier, Harbltron, Tati5001, PrivateTaco, zincink, and Yiska, because I always end up seeing their work and stickering and or commenting on it, anonymously or not.

@Anonymous: everyone has a voice, i personally think down vote is not effective enough. on the other hand i think that helps keep canv.as a positive place. your post for example was downvoted when i saw it under the new tab, it still shows up there is just a little message below it that the post has been downvoted. i think this is as kind and fair as you can make a system and still have downvotes

@Anonymous: >This was even downvoted
This was a completely legitimate concern. -

@Anonymous: "i think that helps keep canv.as a positive place"
A positive place in who's eyes? A positive place in a dictator's eyes is one where everybody is under his control. -

@Anonymous: Or, you know, leave the moderation to the mods.
