>No Star Fox

BITCHES PLEASE.
Starfox was not only the start of polygons being used in popular gaming, voice acting in some way (really, the two SNES games had digitized voices), or the creator of the Barrel Roll meme and the source of Krystal, the cause of 13 year olds becoming furry everywhere back in 2002, but also a source of tunes and music that were great and memorable.
Let me give samples:
SNES Main Theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=af2bMMojAZ8
SNES Corneria: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zPOYyg2uVo (dat 16-bit guitar)
SNES 2 Theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djwe_o3gJ6s
SNES 2 Star Wolf: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szX3SETqzf4 (Even better than Star Wolf's 64 and subsequent themes, in my opinion)
SF 64 Theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwQiMMgqypY
SF 64 Star Wolf: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dQM2AfSM1I
SF 64 Area 6: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dIETrKo0Ao
SF 64 Credits: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpeTnDCvsNI
Star Fox Assault Theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QL9wpF5xx9s
Assault Fortuna Space: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgnbmoB1Dik (Now that's a battle theme)
Assault Star Wolf: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbC4MhogHDA (DAT VIOLIN AND TRUMPET)
Assault Credits: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLKEPTAH-h8 (Beautiful...)

Even if they're recent, these two easily beat every other soundtrack. They're both simply amazing.
I'll post two exemples if anyone's interested in listening (the only spoiler is the location name):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qo8Ml0tYoSQ (Skyward Sword)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftmSuJqbdx0 (Xenoblade)
The Xenoblade OST in particular is amazing, I know the game has not yeat been released in the USA, I would suggest you listen to some pieces, truly breathtaking.31 -

@Anonymous: Personally, I prefer JSR to JSRF, but only by hardly. Hot damn those games had good music.

Dont think I ever even played daytona, but that DOOT DOOT DOOT DOOT
Also the MOTHER series has crazy good music. -
Anyone said about any of these three yet? I think at least one of them must be unique, but I'm experiencing such a severe Computron deficit right now I don't think I'd survive the attempt to check.
Monkey Island 1 & 2 I presume have been mentioned but they bear repeating. This is the CD edition in fact, which has upgraded music for both parts. Strangely the synth music for SoMI seems to be completely disabled, but no matter, the CD tracks are pretty good. It pays to eject the disc for MI2 however, as the original iMuse system is still available. And you get that super nostalgic Adlib / OPL sound.
T2K is just flawless from start to finish. One of those OSTs you can actually play outside of the game as something other than a novelty. I even dropped a few of the tracks into car mixtapes before. The synth version (that you get if, e.g. you've crammed the actual game data onto a floppy disc for even more portable play) tries its best, but it's just not a patch on the original. It's the sound of 1995 clubland plugged straight into your brain, without all the pesky commercial tie-ins that meant certain big shot artists -had- to appear on the Wipeout soundtrack regardless of suitability.
Worms, well, OK, it's more ambience than actual music (save the title theme and the Wormsong), but each one fits its relevant playfields just so brilliantly that it seems worthy of note.
( Also I just happened to have them to hand to photograph... :-D ) -
