@ItchyBarracuda: I thought it was a great film. Would have preferred a few others (Melancholia, Descendants) but I really enjoyed The Artist.

@bloodjun: @ItchyBarracuda @alpercet I haven't watched The Artist, but I could say that it won all those awards because it's a homage to classic Hollywood (and we all know the Academy are a bunch of old conservative people), plus, it takes some balls to make a silent film in the 21st century. So, kudos to them.

@Anonymous: Maybe we should talk about the Vietnam and the mess you did in Iraq and Afghanistan. But it would be out of topic.

@Anonymous: Yes, let's talk about "The Vietnam", my favorite part is when it was originally France's problem but then they get stomped out of the territory.

@dingo8baby: So you either enjoy pretentious award bait, or you're a child who doesn't understand the concept of a good film? Interesting...

@Anonymous: how old are you?

@ItchyBarracuda: It's okay. It's just too deep for you.
You missed all the references and nuances because you are not cultured.
It's okay. There's always a new Transformers sequel for you to look forward to.29 1 14 9 8 8 1 -

'Art' movies are just as shallow as Transformers. Movies like The Artisit and Incredibly Loud and Extremely Close are designed to push certain buttons that make you emotional. There is still little substance. But really there wasn't much competition, movies sucked in 2011. 2012 looks a lot better.

@Anonymous: No.

@Anonymous: Oh boy I know you trollin'. Some of my favorite films of all time are "The General", "Sherlock Holmes Jr", The Great Dictator to name a few. All silent films (aside from TGD, still has many silent scenes). To imply that I am uncultured because a film decides to prey on those who want to THINK they know something about film is like, what the hell man.
And why is this a matter of "Well your opinion is obviously wrong because MINE is better". Dude, my opinion is fact, deal with it.51 -

@ItchyBarracuda: It's okay. Uncultured people never think they're uncultured.
I don't expect you to ever realize that.
Really, it's okay. You have nothing to be ashamed of. Not everyone is meant to be smart and have good taste in things.
You'd be surprised at how many like you exist in this world!
Never lose hope. :) -

@dingo8baby: Don't cheapen a discussion with that kind of trivial nonsense. You can enjoy The Artist if you want but you can't deny that it's pretentious award bait, like you can't deny that A Serbian Film is nothing more than shallow torture porn.
-
@Anonymous: lol ok mister
But still Transformers 3 was the best film of the year hands down. That next to Ghost Rider.6 -
I think better movies should have won, but The Artist is by NO MEANS the worst of the bunch.
as for award bait, someone tweeted this very succient observation:
the difference between Hugo and The Artist is the difference between telling you that old movies are great and showing you that old movies are great.
which goes back to the old adage of "show don't tell"
and with that in mind, The Artist isn't award bait *cough*Hugo*cough* so much as proper homage.
PS besides Luc Bessom, french cinema hasn't been all that relevant for a few decades. and it peaked with Jacques Tati21 1 -
