@Anonymous: Because I don't believe that humankind has an ulterior purpose, I feel that life has no meaning unless or until you create meaning in it yourself.
I don't know how this shows that, but I really like drawing sunsets185 1 3 2 1 1 -

@Anonymous: Agreed, we don't know how or why we exist, and we probably shouldn't exist, but we do. So we should use the opportunity to do something constructive.
Personally I think human intelligence, consciousness and understanding are things which should be preserved and built on as much as possible, and from a human perspective happiness is good too, so it should be increased where possible. That's all that really matters to me.1 1 1 -

@Anonymous: What she was saying sounded more closely to Nietzsche's sentiment when he described the will to power.

@NikolaTesla: Despite the fact fact I'm allegedly studying it at the moment, I'm not entirely clear whether existentialism is a position or a field. I think it may be that Nihilism is a common result of existentialist thought (but if I'm wrong it would be very helpful if anyone could explain why).

@refractor: Nihilism by itself is just the belief that nothing has any value. Nietzsche saw Christianity and European culture as leading to nihilism because according to him, it said that things were essentially taken care of and you didn't have to strive for anything. The point of Nietzsche's philosophy is to achieve your will to power.
Now this is far from a perfect answer but I didn't want to create a huge wall of text. I am a philosophy major but I try to avoid arguments on the internet involving philosophy or politics since they usually devolve into something terrible with people who only have cursory knowledge of the subject jumping in claiming to be experts.1 -

@Anonymous: I tried as hard as I could to make this inoffensive to Jiakko. I think the ambiguity is aptly portrayed.
