Probably what's really going on here.
I have seen girls who wear transformers shirts but don't know the original theme song. Or who have heard of FF, but mention Squall, limit breaks, or summons and you lost her. They will do this to get guys interested, but they have no actual interest.
There are so many of these kinda girls that there's actually a meme now:

The girls who actually usually enjoy the things shown in this picture usually do not go around carrying a sword (at something like a convention, let's be serious here) or even wearing this type of shirt sometimes because they are afraid of being subjected to a stereotype.
Unless they do, then you've got a winner.82 -

Re: What's Really Going On Here
If a girl that looks like that takes the time to so much as learn the name of one Transformer because she wants to date a nerd YOU GET OFF YOUR DAMN HIGH HORSE AND THANK GOD IT HAPPENED!

@JSPEKTR: Or, I just date someone for who they are and not how they look like some shallow fool. Those relationships usually never work out. Why should I thank god that some girl decided to try and impress me only to find out that she is fake? I mean, maybe there may be other qualifying features to that girl, but it mostly ends with the girl seeing he is too nerdy and the guy not caring.
BEAUTY ISN'T EVERYTHING, BRO.
Also, seeing as this post seems to be getting some steam, I will be the first to state it: Yes, I forgot to put closing punctuation marks, GOD WHY ME.32 -

@Anonymous: Not hipsters, these fake nerds buy their crap at Hot Topic and Hot Topic has raped many hipster things and made them annoyingly mainstream

@Anonymous:
Ah, the old "you can't be a real nerd if you is good looking, it only for us ugly people" thing.
I'll go tell all the attractive women I know that are nerd that they're doing it wrong, some bitter guy on the internet told me so. -

@JSPEKTR: Way to take what I said incorrectly.
I didn't say attractive women can't be nerdy, in fact in my post I said "beauty isn't everything." I was stating (and many other anon seem to agree with me on this) that the girls who tend to do this are fakers. You know, people who lie just to make themselves look good towards a certain person/social group.
Also, if you paid attention, you would have noticed I said that "maybe there may be other qualifying features to that girl, but it mostly ends with the girl seeing he is too nerdy and the guy not caring." in which I was implying (but I suppose not enough) that sometimes, the nerdy guy will fall for the girl pretending to be nerdy because she's actually a pretty legit girl, however that is usually not the case.
I will give you one thing, though: I can be pretty bitter, however that doesn't keep me from having an open mind about things. You just gotta support your facts and not be so gosh darned accusatory.
Also, I don't want no "Those anons are all the same" argument being thrown around, so no anon I guess. -

@Anonymous: It's because they are faking it. It's like say you enjoy Star Wars, now someone goes up to you and says "Oh I LOVE Star Wars! It's the best!" to which you reply "Oh yeah? Which is your favorite movie?" And they proceed to say "The one with Zachary Quinto!"
*POKER FACE*
It's not even so much about hate as it is about not being true to one's self. -
