They don't want happiness, they want the problem they're praying for to be solved, happiness comes from thinking that they're helping it to get solved, and that kind of happiness is cancerous.

I'm old enough to know that bashing religion just for the sake of it is silly.
It makes its followers happy, and that's plenty enough for me to wish them well.
Also, religious people don't just pray when they want something (barring presumably a persistent desire to get into heaven). It can offer peace and meditation, a sense of closeness to god and yes, happiness.
A lot of religious behave charitably on top of prayer, and I'm sure their prayers don't consist of "lol pls halp people so i dun have to do anything".

If an idea doesn't deserve respect it must be criticized, if everyone respected others ideas no mater how ridiculous they were we'd learn nothing about reality.

Self interest, doing good not for goodness sake, but for your own afterlife sake.
@ Anon, oh please, get the fuck over yourself.
And you know what, they probably are shitty people. You and are are probably shitty people too, b/c the majority of the human race is pretty fucked up, and went full retard a long ass time ago. Maybe even 6,005 years ago.
I'm an Atheist as of a few years ago, but I still go to church for social reasons.
Most Christians are perfectly acceptable people on the surface, and I'm very good friends with some of them. But if you ask the right kind of questions about their faith without arousing suspicion, it's painful how stupid they are.
They'll cling to any explanation if it appears to support their beliefs with no regard for how likely it is to be true or how much it contradicts other things they believe.
You can point out fatal flaws in the bible, but as long as you make out that you don't understand either and change the subject, they won't give it a second thought.
As a Christian I was annoyed by Atheist arguments because although they seemed obviously false, they were very difficult to disagree with.
As an Atheist, Christian arguments annoy me because they come in a million flavours of wrong, and they're obvious to all but the Christian.
Aspects of reality have to be compromised to fit in with the bible, be it facts or logic itself - something has to go. Christianity is like living in a video game compared to Atheism, but less fun.
Jesus seemed like a pretty cool guy, I'm sure he'd be turning in his tomb if his body didn't get stolen.
Anyway, I'm just trying to spread enlightenment.

@Anonymous: I don't really care about the prayer thing too much, it's just that most religious people are so stupid it makes me rage. (See pic)
