@Anonymous: eh i think moot said in some early interviews the site would eventually be about remixing music, video, whatever. I dunno I get things wrong a lot because of the booze. That isn't as important as this: the site is set up well technically to build a community of semi-anonymous content producers making crackly fun shit to waste time with...but what will this community be like? If not these two sites, then what? and how do those of us who want it to go one way rather than another go about doing that?
If you want to see the way I personally want this site to be, go back in time to AlbinoBlackSheep in 2003. -

@ROPED: If you wrote that book I would read it. I've been a casual 4chan lurker for 6 or 7 years, but much more active on reddit and 100x more active on news.ycombinator.com (written by the guy who funded reddit originally, a reddit targeted at startup people).
What we really want to see is something that scales up, so that people who want the funny casual shit can get it, and the people who want something else can get that too. We'll keep on making remix slightly better (I can all but guarantee that, because I work on it on the weekends) but our company focus is on building out ways to scale the community up.
We could add following users and threads, but we worry that will make the site "you get out of it what you put into it" which means the majority of users won't see the cool shit. Twitter is that way to a large degree, your stream is a function of how much effort you put into finding people like you, and it's all manual effort. -

@BrockObama: We're working hard to open them up to be community created. Our seed categories were just a test. And canv.as *is* shooting through the roof. Despite the big barriers to entry (invites + fb connect), we're still struggling to keep up with the growth. (Product wise, technology wise scaling has actually been too easy *crosses fingers*).
I just meant that the users of canvas barely have their own identity. We're like a baby just learning to stand on our own legs; it's a really fun time to be here :) -
@BrockObama: We (staff) are active enough and the site is small enough that every thread is Q+A :)

@timothy: I'm worried that canv.as may grow too fast and inviting a large group like reddit early will delude any culture canv.as may have or being developing with reddit-like ideals. Like I'm impressed with our community for not posting page after page of rage/troll comic templates while reddit has a whole board to them. Not saying they'll bring that sort of thing over..only time will tell.

@Tion: as a long time redditor....redditors aren't really known for their originality or creativity. There has been a drop in maturity the bigger reddit has gotten, link submissions have been spammier and spammier. Where once was some creative mischief and beauty in the chaos is just an ocean of children swimming in piss and gurgling whatever someone cooler has told them to repeat ( a lot like some other places to think of it, hmmmm.)
