Jobs
Hi! We're looking to recruit a few multi-talented individuals for our team. Both positions are full-time and located at our office in New York City. If you're super awesome and unable to relocate, we'll figure out a way to accomodate you.
Ideal candidates are heavy users of online communities who want to invent new and better ways for people to hang out and collaborate online. We're working on a product that takes forums and re-imagines them for an era of increasingly sophisticated users and browsers.
Here's who we're looking for:
Frontend Developer/Designer
Are you a frontend developer with an eye for design and UI/UX? We'd like you to help us build the user-facing side of Canvas.
- Strong HTML(5), CSS(3), and JavaScript skills
- Insane jQuery chops
- Some web sockets, long polling, Comet experience
- Handy with Photoshop/Illustrator
Backend Developer/Tech Lead
If you're looking to lead tech at a start-up, here's your opportunity. You'll establish the foundation that powers Canvas and help us scale it.
- Strong Python, Ruby on Rails, or PHP skills
- MySQL experience—database design and scaling
- Familiarity with document-oriented or graph DBs
- Operations—comfortable with server set-up, scaling
- Amazon Web Services (EC2 and S3)
- Experience building real-time apps with presence, and protocols like XMPP a plus

E-mail jobs [at] canv.as and tell us a bit about yourself, why you're interested, what your strengths are, where you heard about us, and any neat projects you've worked on. What online communities do you participate in? Do you like bubble tea or visit the arcade? Let us know! Send us links to public projects, your GitHub, open source contributions, whatever you have. If all you have is a résumé, we promise not to hold it against you (too much).
Don't see your position listed here, or not based in New York but think you'd be a great fit and want to get involved? Send us a note anyway, we'd love to hear from you. (We're flexible!)
