We're currently looking for Software Engineers.
Job Description
The job title says "Software Engineer" but really we're looking for "Software Entrepreneur" or a "Startup Engineer". Yes, your day job will be writing code. But that's the only similarity to a big company software job.
You'll be challenged to take big ideas and turn them into concrete testable hypotheses. Shipping a great feature is important, but positively changing user behavior is the ultimate success criteria. Built-to-spec takes a backseat to moves-the-metrics.
We ask a lot of our developers, but in exchange we also give a lot:
- Radical transparency into the business. We go over the finances as a team monthly. Meetings aren't held behind closed doors.
- A strong voice in product development. Decisions aren't made in a vacuum. Be a key part in building an amazing product.
- Trust in bottom-up decision making. Flexibility to build the product you think is right, and let data and rationality settle disagreements. Flexibility to work whenever and however you're most productive.
- A great working environment including whatever tools you need. Big monitors, whatever hardware setup you want. Lunch catered every day. Sit-stand desks if you're into that kind of thing.
Requirements
We don't require an arbitrary list of skills or technologies. We don't require an arbitrary number of years of experience. We don't require an arbitrary amount of schooling.
If you pick things up quickly, if you're always curious, if you're constantly thinking about the next big problem and solution then we're looking for you. If you want to build something new, something amazing, something you can point at and say "I made that happen" then we're looking for you.
Our current software stack is jQuery on the frontend, and Python, Django, Twisted, Redis, MySQL and Solr for the backend, but as our needs change our stack will evolve. Our HTML5 image editor is just the tip of our modern browser enabled rich media plan. Our deploy process is "git push" and if the tests pass on Jenkins the code is automatically deployed, which happens twenty times a day. Our benefits package includes EC2 instances for Minecraft servers.
Our office is in Union Square, Manhattan. If you don't live in New York City, we'll pay to fix that.
